"Aquaponics for our Colorado Climate"

presented by Matthew Westenhaver

In our world of change an aquaponics system can provide fresh organic vegetables, herbs, and fish in a controlled greenhouse environment for year round growth and consumption. USDA.org states, “greenhouse crops represents one of the largest commodities of American agriculture.

Aquaponics combines aquaculture and hydroponics by using bacteria to convert the ammonia from the fish into the nitrate form desired by plants as a primary source of nutrition. The plants filter the water, removing the nitrogen so that the water can return to the fish, eliminating  toxic build up. Plants grown in aquaponics are of high quality and express desirable character such as increased flavor, aroma, and size.

A system can be in your kitchen as an aquarium/herb garden or in a greenhouse for home or commercial use. The choice is yours.
